the observer
2012
A performance which took place in the historic Norman Castle Keep in Newcastle-upon-Tyne as part of the one-night collaborative art event , "Syzgy." As an exploration into curiosity and terror, I created a monster who watched intently and was only able to move when not observed. In order to take advantage of the architecture of the historic structure, the observing monster character was hidden away deep in the castle at the end of a gated corridor. People were encouraged by their own curiosity to explore, and those who found the observer were typically quite shocked by an unexpected masked figure. The performance lasted 2.5 hours, for most of which the observer was posed and motionless.
